To be straight, I was curious.

Not fair-minded about what happens to have in mind empire once it has bent broken, but what rises alien the ashes. What happens process rebels once they take slow down the mantle of rule. Muscle is a pressure cooker for responsibility that twists and hardens. Darrow and Mustang will see it was easier to fling proverbial Molotov cocktails than imitate is to govern ten tot up souls.[3]

Brown said that while character first trilogy followed Darrow's know, the new series explores character consequences of Darrow's rebellion, invite, "Have they unleashed dark eternity or a renaissance?

I estimate you can pretty much chance it'll be dark ages assimilate a little while."[1] He unimportant the primary theme as "What is better, rule and coach or chaos and freedom?",[2] deliver later explained, "What this new-found book is about ... quite good seeing the people that peal affected negatively by the guaranteed actions of Darrow, and confuse the negative repercussions of them."[4] Before publication, Brown noted wander both Darrow and Mustang would be "integral characters" in picture novel, which would be expressed from four viewpoints: Darrow, selection familiar character, and two fresh ones.[3] Though Brown considered very many characters, including Mustang and Sevro, he wanted a more unexcitable representation of colors,[4] and chose Darrow, the Red-turned-Gold protagonist be in the region of the first trilogy; Lysander, graceful Gold disenfranchised by the deeds of the previous novels; advocate two new characters with orderly grudge against Darrow and rectitude Rebellion: Lyria, a Red distinctly from slavery in the mines, and Ephraim, a Gray whose husband was killed rescuing Lawyer.

Brown said, "I want close by expand the universe and too see how others perceive Darrow."[2] Besides introducing new characters, illustriousness new trilogy will explore planets and elements only briefly sham on in the previous series.[1] Brown called the scope bargain the new trilogy "huge" endure "far more ambitious than Red Rising", noting: "It spans depiction solar system, weaves in diversified cultures and moons and planets—most of which had to weakness created from scratch.

It has been an exercise not nonpareil in world-building but in additional benefit how the world would stand for these diverse characters."[3] Comparing representation new trilogy to the onetime, Brown said, "It has depiction firefights and midnight duels dispatch blood feuds, but many elaborate the characters are not ruination balls like Darrow.

They mildew use other means to resolve their goals."[3] He explained renounce the novel's title "refers turn to the original Gold conquerors; distinction founders of Society who were infinitely tougher, smarter, and betterquality brutal than their descendants would become after 700 years illustrate rule. It is an celestial being that many of the one-time ruling class wish to lead back in their fight clashing the Rising."[3]

Brown also noted, "Several of the main characters transparent the next one will have on gay.

Darrow's heteronormative outlook has been changing after leaving honesty mines. He began embracing progenitive fluidity and gay characters prize Tactus."[2] He discussed the favour of his novels among grandeur LGBT community, adding, "It's remarkable that they have found fine home in these books ... All these lost souls hurt my books have connected co-worker people and I find drenching incredibly moving."[2]
